Effective October 6, 2026
Showcase Jamaica (myshowcasejamaica.com) is a Jamaican culture, food, travel and language site operated from New York and Jamaica. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.
The short version: we collect as little as we need, we never sell your personal information, and you can ask us to see or delete what we hold about you at any time.
1. Who we are
In this policy, “Showcase Jamaica,” “we,” “us” and “our” mean the site and the team behind it. If you have any question about your privacy, write to [email protected].
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Newsletter sign-ups. When you join Letters to Yaad or download a free guide such as “Talk Like a Jamaican,” we collect your email address and, if you provide it, your first name.
- Contact form. If you write to us through the site, we receive your name, email address and message.
- Comments. If you leave a comment, we store your name, email address, website (optional), the comment itself, and your IP address.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data. Pages you visit, how long you stay, the site that referred you, your browser and device type, and your approximate location (city or country, not your street address).
- Technical data. Your IP address and browser details, which our hosting and security services log to keep the site running and protected from spam and attacks.
3. How we use it
- To send the newsletter and free downloads you asked for.
- To reply when you contact us.
- To display and moderate comments.
- To understand which articles readers find useful, so we can write more of what you want.
- To keep the site secure, fast and free of spam.
- To show ads that help keep the site free to read.
- To earn affiliate commissions when you buy something through our links (see Section 6).
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to make automated decisions about you.
4. Cookies
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. We and the services we use set the following:
| Cookie source | Purpose | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics | Counts visits and shows us which pages are read | Analytics |
| Google AdSense | Shows ads, which may be based on your interests | Advertising (third-party) |
| Amazon Associates | Records that you arrived at Amazon from our link, so the purchase can be credited to us | Affiliate (third-party) |
| WordPress | Remembers your name and email if you choose to save them when commenting | Functional |
| Cloudflare | Identifies trusted traffic and blocks malicious visitors | Security (essential) |
| Share buttons (AddToAny) | Lets you share articles to social networks | Functional |
Advertising. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site based on your visits here and to other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, though some features (such as remembered comment details) may not. To opt out of Google Analytics on every site, you can install Google’s Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
5. Services we share data with
We use trusted third-party services to run the site. Each one handles your data under its own privacy policy:
| Service | What it does for us | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics (via Site Kit) | Site statistics | Usage data, IP address, cookies |
| Google AdSense | Advertising | Usage data, cookies |
| MailerLite | Sends the newsletter and free downloads | Email address, first name, open and click activity |
| WPForms | Runs the contact form | Name, email address, message |
| Amazon Associates | Affiliate program | Clicks on Amazon links, cookies |
| Namecheap | Web hosting | Server logs, form and comment data |
| LiteSpeed Cache | Makes pages load faster | No personal data stored |
| Cloudflare | Security and site speed | IP address, browser details |
| CleanTalk | Spam filtering for comments and forms | Name, email, IP address, message text |
| Gravatar (Automattic) | Shows profile images beside comments | A coded version of your email address |
Embedded content. Some articles include videos, maps or posts embedded from other sites (such as YouTube or Google Maps). These behave exactly as if you visited that site directly, and it may collect data about you.
6. Affiliate links
Showcase Jamaica is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. When you click an Amazon link on our site, Amazon may set a cookie to credit the sale. We never see your name, address or payment details. Read our full Affiliate Disclosure.
7. Newsletter
You will only receive emails from us if you sign up. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also write to [email protected] to be removed. Once you unsubscribe, we stop sending you mail.
8. How long we keep your information
- Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- Comments: indefinitely, so the conversation stays visible, unless you ask us to remove them.
- Contact messages: as long as needed to respond, and no longer than two years.
- Analytics data: according to Google Analytics retention settings (14 months).
9. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- Tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy.
- Correct information that is wrong.
- Delete your information.
- Stop using your information for a particular purpose, including marketing emails.
Write to [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation, Jamaica’s Data Protection Act, 2020, or US state privacy laws. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
10. International readers
Showcase Jamaica is operated from New York and Jamaica, and our service providers may store data in the United States or elsewhere. By using the site, you understand that your information may be processed outside your home country, with protections provided by our service providers’ own safeguards.
11. Children
This site is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU and UK). If you believe a child has given us their information, contact [email protected] and we will delete it.
12. Security
The site uses an SSL certificate (the padlock in your browser), and our hosting and security providers protect the data they store. No website can guarantee complete security, but we take reasonable steps to keep your information safe.
13. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and the effective date at the top. For significant changes, we will also let newsletter subscribers know.
